It all starts by booking an appointment for a examination. You can book online or by phone.
You will be examined by an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. If you are approved for treatment, a suitable method will be recommended to you.
Your vision will continue to improve in the days following the procedure. Most patients quickly notice clearer vision and greater comfort without glasses or contact lenses.
There is procedure if you want to become free from glasses
The procedure is the same as the one used for cataract surgery, making it the most commonly performed operation in the world. In the UK alone, around 60,000 procedures of this type are performed each year. A small additional benefit of lens replacement surgery is that you do not need to worry about developing cataracts in the future, as cataracts affect the eye’s natural lens—which is replaced during the procedure. In other words, there are several advantages to becoming free from glasses through surgery.
The procedure is painless. On the day of the operation, your eyes will be treated with anaesthetic eye drops. If you feel very nervous, you can also request a calming tablet.
The surgery itself is quick and typically takes about 10–15 minutes per eye. You will be taken into the operating room and asked to lie down on a surgical bed. For the sake of our patients’ comfort and to optimise healing times, it is recommended that both eyes are treated on the same day. First, one eye is treated and all instruments are then replaced before the surgeon proceeds with the second eye.
You will be able to see and move around afterward, but due to the drops used in the procedure, your vision will be slightly blurry for a few hours after surgery, and you will not be able to drive yourself home. You will be able to return to work and resume driving once you have attended your first post-operative check with Dr Pillai, which takes place one day after surgery.
You will attend a follow-up check-up the day after your surgery with Dr Pillai to ensure everything is healing as expected.
In a small number of cases, a corrective procedure may be needed to achieve the optimal result. This is naturally included in the price and is part of your all-inclusive aftercare program.
At Precision Vision London, in these situations we will either correct the vision by performing a laser enhancement or a YAG Laser procedure, both of which are safe and painless procedures, with minimal recovery times.
The degree of freedom from glasses you can expect depends on the type of procedure and lens you receive. If you have had a lens replacement, you can generally expect to be free from glasses and contact lenses.
In certain situations, like reading in dim light or performing focused intricate tasks – such as sewing or embroidery – you may find it more comfortable to use a pair of reading glasses to minimise eye strain.
It may take some time for your brain to adjust to the new visual impressions. During this period, you may experience slightly blurred vision, shadows, or halos around bright light sources. This is normal and usually temporary.

The side effects you may experience after a lens replacement are usually temporary, such as dry eyes. Some people experience halos, which appear as rings around light sources. It varies from person to person whether this occurs and how long it lasts.
It can take up to one year for your vision to reach its full potential.
No, it is not possible to develop a cataract as the natural lens is removed and cannot become cloudy. However, posterior capsule opacification (PCO) can develop, this is when cells grow on the capsule which holds the lens. It is often called a "secondary cataract" because it causes similar symptoms, blurry vision. This occurs in about 10% of patients. It can be removed quickly and painlessly with a YAG Laser treatment, and this is included in the price when you have your lens replacement at Precision Vision London.
The optical design of intraocular lenses are completely different to varifocal spectacles. Instead of a patient needing to move their head to adjust the focus, they will be able to comfortably see distance, intermediate and near without having to make any movements. Layered concentric circles are used to correct each form of prescription issue allowing for simultaneous correction of all fields of vision.
You can feel completely confident about having a glasses-free procedure. Dr Almousa is an internationally recognised surgeon with Fellowships in Oculoplastics, Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery. He has performed more than 10,000 of these procedures. Before we even assess whether we can help you, we always carry out a thorough preliminary examination to ensure that you are suitable for the treatment. With our 1-year all-inclusive aftercare program, you are covered every step of the way.
Anaesthetic drops are used to numb the eye - it is completely painless to undergo a glasses-free surgery.
There will be a few temporary restrictions after treatment. Examples include avoiding sports that may cause trauma to the eye, avoiding dusty environments and lifting heavy weights. At your consultation, we will take into consideration your lifestyle and hobbies and advise you accordingly.

At Precision Vision, we prioritise personalised care to ensure every patient receives the most suitable treatment for their visual and lifestyle needs. Our consultations, lasting about 2 hours, involve thorough tests conducted by experienced refractive optometrists and technicians.
After comprehensive testing, patients will meet with our Medical Director, Dr. CT Pillai, or a trained specialist optometrist to discuss suitability and create a tailored treatment plan. Dilating drops are used during the consultation, lasting approximately six hours, affecting near vision and causing light sensitivity.
During the consultation, patients undergo various tests, including:
Following testing, patients meet with Dr. Pillai to discuss suitability, address concerns, and receive detailed information on risks and treatment options. An information booklet is provided to facilitate an informed decision-making process.
Precision Vision’s patient coordinators will assess your suitability over the phone and inform you of possible treatment options, saving time for unsuitable patients.
A confirmation letter with a medical questionnaire will be sent upon booking a consultation. Please fill it out before the initial assessment and bring it to the consultation or email it beforehand.
Contact lens wearers need to prepare for accurate results:
Bring at least two previous prescriptions, glasses, or contact lenses to your consultation, even if they are old. If not emailed, bring the medical questionnaire and any relevant medical records.
Dilating drops will be used, so avoid driving on the consultation day and bring sunglasses for sensitivity to light afterward.
