At Precision Vision London, your vision is in the safest hands. Led by Dr. Radwan Almousa MD, an award-winning refractive and cataract surgeon with extensive international training. We specialise in delivering outstanding results through precision diagnostics, world-class laser technology and individually tailored treatment plans.
At Precision Vision London, we offer advanced ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) Surgery in Harley Street, the heart of London’s renowned medical district. ICL surgery provides a long-term, lens-based solution for people who want freedom from glasses and contact lenses but may not be suitable for laser eye surgery.
Unlike LASIK or other laser procedures, ICL surgery does not remove any corneal tissue. Instead, a soft biocompatible lens is carefully implanted between your natural lens and the iris (the coloured part of your eye). This lens works in harmony with your eye to correct short-sightedness, Long-sightedness and astigmatism, offering high-definition vision with natural sharpness and contrast. It is the only vision correction procedure that is completely reversible, as it leaves the cornea untouched and unaltered.
The procedure itself is quick, safe and virtually painless, usually taking around 20 to 30 minutes per eye. Recovery is remarkably fast; most patients notice significantly improved vision within hours. Because the ICL can be removed or replaced if needed, it provides both flexibility and peace of mind.
ICL surgery is an ideal choice for patients with thin corneas, dry eyes or high prescriptions who may not be suitable for laser correction. Every lens is custom-made to match the patient’s exact eye measurements, ensuring a perfect visual outcome.
Most adults seeking long-term freedom from glasses or contact lenses are suitable candidates for ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) Surgery, a safe and effective alternative to laser vision correction. ICL surgery is designed for individuals with short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism who want permanent vision correction without altering the corneal structure.
You may be an ideal candidate for ICL Surgery if you are between 21 and 45 years old and your prescription has remained stable for at least 12 months. This procedure is particularly suitable for individuals with thin or irregular corneas who may not qualify for laser eye surgery. If you’re seeking a reversible, long-term vision correction solution that offers exceptional clarity and comfort, ICL Surgery could be the perfect choice for you.
You may not be suitable for ICL Surgery if you have severe eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, advanced retinal disease, or uncontrolled systemic health issues such as diabetes or autoimmune disorders. In such cases, your surgeon will carefully assess your eye health and discuss alternative options.

EVO Visian ICL is the treatment of choice for those patients between the ages of 21 to 45 who are not ideal candidates for laser eye surgery due to high prescriptions, thin corneas, dry eye syndrome or other reasons. It can also be used to help patients suffering from Keratoconus who have had cross-linking treatment or where the disease has stabilised.
EVO Visian ICL treatments have been performed for over 20 years and more than 900,000 ICL procedures have been conducted successfully worldwide. Prior to being available, ICL lenses were subjected to extensive research and development. They have been approved in Europe since 1997 and FDA approved in the US since 2005.
The US military regularly implant EVO Visian ICL for their servicemen/women and have been monitoring the results. Their study concluded that EVO Visian ICL provides “excellent visual and refractive results”. The study showed excellent vision quality and stability of the lens inside the eye, even in combat. The treatment has shown to be an effective, safe, predictable and stable way to correct high and low levels of short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
As with any procedure, safety is not only dictated by the technology used but also by the surgeon performing the treatment. Precision Vision surgeons are internationally-renowned surgeons and recognised experts in the field of lens treatments and teach other surgeons how to perform this procedure.
Implantable Contact Lenses are suitable for a wide range of prescriptions from -23D to +11 with astigmatism up to 6D. Precision Vision has made history by being the first clinic in the UK to treat an astigmatic hyperope (a long-sighted individual with a high prescription and significant astigmatism).
EVO Visian ICL is the standardised treatment for higher prescriptions and is recommended by the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the European Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS).
The EVO Visian ICL is made of Collamer, a highly biocompatible advanced lens material which contains a small amount of purified collagen. Collamer does not cause a reaction inside the eye and contains an ultraviolet blocker that protects the eye.
There is no chance of rejection as the EVO Visian ICL is made of a Collamer material that is completely biocompatible with the body’s natural chemistry.
The EVO Visian ICL implant is designed to remain inside the eye indefinitely. It can be thought of as a permanent contact lens that is maintenance free. However, the lens can be removed at any time in the future should it be necessary.
Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL) are often referred to as a phakic IOLs meaning a lens is implanted into an eye with the natural lens in place. An Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) replaces the natural crystalline lens and is used to treat patients aged 45+ that require reading glasses (presbyopia) or have cataracts.
EVO Visian ICL lenses are much smaller than a contact lens and they are implanted behind the iris (the coloured part of the eye) and they are not visible to those looking at you. Given the location of the implanted lens, it will remain permanently in place and cannot be felt.
No, you cannot feel the lens.
The advantage of the EVO Visian ICL is that it can permanently correct your vision, yet no natural tissue is removed in any way during the procedure. If for the unlikely reason you need or wish to remove your EVO Visian ICLs in the future, it can be done.
After attending the consultation, tailor-made lenses are ordered from the manufacturer. Lenses sometimes can take up to 4 to 8 weeks to be manufactured and sent to our clinic.
Once the lenses have arrived the procedure will take approximately 30 minutes per eye and we will treat each eye on two consecutive days, meaning that the amount of time spent with one eye uncorrected is minimised, allowing for a faster recovery.
Anaesthetic drops are applied to numb the eye meaning that nothing is felt throughout the treatment. The drops wear off without any side effects soon after the procedure is finished.
Visual improvement is noticeable almost immediately after treatment and patients can see 90-95 % better within two to three days following treatment.
Patients are required to attend regular aftercare appointments the first year after treatment; these are included in the cost of your treatment. There is no other maintenance required but we recommend having an eye examination every 2 years at the Precision Vision clinic or with a qualified person in the field.
ICL surgery does not prevent or slow down cataract formation. However, if a cataract operation is required, the EVO Visian ICL implants can be safely removed and normal cataract surgery can be performed.
Every EVO Visian ICL implant is customised to each individual’s prescription and the lens is tailor-made. The procedure requires more extensive preoperative assessments, measurements and calculations. There is also a larger surgical team required for the procedure.
Laser surgery permanently modifies the cornea and, as ICL treatment does not affect the cornea, it is possible to have EVO Visian ICL after Laser treatment.

Call us today 020 3884 6805 and take the first step towards crystal-clear, glasses-free vision with ICL Surgery in London.
Upon reaching the Harley Street clinic for your surgery, our skilled and welcoming medical team will assist you throughout the entire process. Typically, we perform surgery on both eyes during the same session, though there may be specific exceptions based on the surgeon’s assessment.
We prefer this approach to reduce the visual disparity and discomfort that can occur when treating eyes separately. This method helps streamline the post-operative experience for our patients and shortens the overall recovery duration.
The procedure begins with numbing drops to anaesthetise the eye. No needles are involved. You’ll receive a sedative, and drops will be used to dilate the pupil. A small self-healing incision is created on the cornea’s edge. For patients with hyperopia (long-sightedness), a laser will create two tiny holes in the iris, known as an iridectomy.
The custom-designed lens is then folded and positioned in front of your natural lens. Since the micro-incision heals itself, no stitches are required. Our dedicated nurse will explain all necessary precautions and medication instructions before you leave. Your follow-up care commences with an eye examination the following day.
Following your ICL procedure, you’ll receive three types of eye drops: anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and moisturising. Clear instructions will be provided regarding the timing of these drops.
Powerful distance-vision correction without reshaping your cornea. EVO Visian ICL is a tiny, biocompatible lens (made from Collamer®️) placed inside the eye, leaving your natural Lens untouched. It’s designed to correct distance prescriptions with exceptional clarity, especially helpful for high prescriptions, thin corneas, or dry-eye-prone patients. The Lens is removable, so your options stay open as your visual needs evolve.
Who it’s for
1. Myopia (short-sightedness) and astigmatism, including higher prescriptions that may not be ideal for laser eye surgery.
2. Patients seeking a cornea-preserving and reversible solution with crisp, high-contrast vision.
The ICL range we use
To tailor outcomes precisely, we select from the latest EVO Visian ICL designs during your clinical work-up (availability is confirmed at consultation):
1. Simple Lens – for long sight (hyperopia) or short sight (myopia)
2. Myopic Toric Lens – for myopia with astigmatism
3. Hyperopic Toric Lens – for hyperopia with astigmatism
What ICL does and doesn’t treat
EVO Visian ICL focuses on the distance field of vision. It doesn’t correct or prevent presbyopia (the age-related need for reading glasses). If presbyopia develops, you may need readers. For people wanting a full range of vision (distance, intermediate and near), Lens Replacement (RLE) may be more suitable.
Safety-led technology
We use the latest EVO Visian ICL designs, including the V4C with CentraFlow®️ (a central aquaport). This innovation helps maintain natural fluid flow in the eye and typically removes the need for a peripheral iridotomy (the tiny opening sometimes made in the iris), streamlining the procedure while supporting excellent visual quality.
Why patients choose ICL at Precision Vision London
1. Cornea-preserving (no tissue removal) and reversible.
2. High-definition distance vision, even in high prescriptions
3. Often dry-eye-friendly compared with some laser options
4. Harley Street expertise with personalised diagnostics and lens planning

Implantable contact lenses (ICLs) offer an alternative vision correction option for individuals with nearsightedness (myopia), particularly those with higher degrees of refractive error. Unlike traditional contact lenses that sit on the surface of the eye, ICLs are surgically implanted inside the eye between the iris and the natural lens. This placement allows for vision correction without altering the cornea's shape, making it an attractive option for those ineligible for laser eye surgery.
The ICL implantation procedure is typically quick and performed on an outpatient basis. Before surgery, thorough measurements are taken to ensure proper sizing and fit of the lens. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the cornea, and the flexible ICL is inserted and positioned in the eye. Patients often experience rapid visual improvement and minimal discomfort following surgery. With proper care and follow-up appointments, ICLs can provide long-term vision correction, offering clear, natural vision for those seeking an alternative to glasses or traditional contact lenses.
After undergoing implantable contact lens treatment at Precision Vision, your aftercare begins immediately in the recovery room where you can relax. When you're ready to leave, our specialist nurse will examine you before you go home. Your first post-operative check typically occurs within the first two days of treatment.
Following treatment, you can gradually resume normal activities, but there are restrictions on certain activities. The duration of waiting time before resuming physically exertive or high-risk activities varies, with the longest waiting period being six weeks after treatment. A full list of any applicable restrictions will be discussed during your consultation.
During your first check-up, either Precision Vision’s senior refractive optometrist or lead surgeon will examine your eyes. Patients can usually begin driving 2 to 3 days after implantable contact lens treatment, but this will be confirmed during your first post-operative check based on your eye examination and healing progress.
Dryness is common after treatment and may last up to a month, which is normal as part of the healing process.
Precision Vision offers outstanding patient care through its aftercare programme, featuring regular post-operative checks throughout the year to monitor your visual improvement. These checks can take place at the Harley Street clinic or with one of our partner optometrists in our independent network (from 3 months onwards).
Our comprehensive aftercare programme includes:
At Precision Vision, we prioritise personalised care to ensure every patient receives the most suitable treatment for their visual and lifestyle needs. Our consultations, lasting about 2 hours, involve thorough tests conducted by experienced refractive optometrists and technicians.
After comprehensive testing, patients will meet with our Medical Director, Dr. CT Pillai, or a trained specialist optometrist to discuss suitability and create a tailored treatment plan. Dilating drops are used during the consultation, lasting approximately six hours, affecting near vision and causing light sensitivity.
During the consultation, patients undergo various tests, including:
Following testing, patients meet with Dr. Pillai to discuss suitability, address concerns, and receive detailed information on risks and treatment options. An information booklet is provided to facilitate an informed decision-making process.
Precision Vision’s patient coordinators will assess your suitability over the phone and inform you of possible treatment options, saving time for unsuitable patients.
A confirmation letter with a medical questionnaire will be sent upon booking a consultation. Please fill it out before the initial assessment and bring it to the consultation or email it beforehand.
Contact lens wearers need to prepare for accurate results:
Bring at least two previous prescriptions, glasses, or contact lenses to your consultation, even if they are old. If not emailed, bring the medical questionnaire and any relevant medical records.
Dilating drops will be used, so avoid driving on the consultation day and bring sunglasses for sensitivity to light afterward.
