Building The Future Of Vision Care Through Partnership

In 2003, Dr CT Pillai founded Advanced Vision Care (AVC) on Harley Street, quickly establishing it as a leader in patient-focused vision correction

Dr. CT Pillai The clinic gained national recognition, including being named the UK’s top-rated provider for Laser Eye Surgery and Lens Replacement by Which? magazine in 2019. AVC became known for its pioneering work across a full range of refractive treatments. While also earning the trust of opticians nationwide through its commitment to co-management, collaboration, training, and patient care.

Following a period of ambitious growth, including the development of a state-of-the-art surgical theatre, AVC faced significant external challenges and closed in 2019. Despite these setbacks, Dr Pillai’s dedication to restoring vision never wavered, and he went on to become a highly regarded NHS consultant. With the continued support of patients, peers, and colleagues, he remained committed to rebuilding and advancing private refractive care.

In late 2023, Dr Pillai marked an exciting return to the private sector as Medical Director of Precision Vision London – a new, forward-thinking Harley Street clinic delivering the highest standards in refractive surgery.

As a pioneer in refractive surgery, Dr Pillai sought to build a non-laser surgical team with the expertise and results needed to manage high prescriptions and complex cases. Last year, the team was fully established, making our non-laser surgical capabilities just as strong as our laser services. The services we offer include:

  • Laser Eye Surgery – LASIK, LASEK/transPRK and ReLEx SMILE
  • Lens Replacement
  • Cataract Surgery
  • Implantable Contact Lens (ICL)
  • Keratoconus treatments – Corneal Cross Linking (manual and laser-assisted), Corneal Implants and Kerasoft lenses

Today, with the clinic firmly established and growing in reputation, the focus has turned once again to partnership. Drawing on decades of experience, Dr Pillai has developed a comprehensive Optometrist Co-Management Partnership Program – designed to support opticians, enhance patient care, and create meaningful, long-term collaboration.

Together, we can shape the future of vision care.

How Does Joining An Optometrist Co-Management Program Enhance Your Services?

Implantable Contact Lens

Joining an optometrist co-management program doesn’t just add another service – it strengthens your entire clinical offering and patient relationship.

Here are several ways your services can be enhanced:

  • Practically speaking, it allows you to expand into refractive and surgical pathways without needing to invest in surgical infrastructure. You can confidently offer patients access to refractive procedures, while remaining their primary point of care before and after treatment. That continuity is valuable – patients prefer to stay with a clinician they already trust.
  • Clinically: It broadens your scope. You’re no longer limited to correction with glasses or contact lenses; you’re guiding patients through the full spectrum of vision correction. This positions you as a more comprehensive provider and fosters stronger, long-term patient relationships.

  • Professional Development: Precision Vision London’s Optometrist Co-Management Program includes training, shared care protocols, and direct access to experienced surgeons. This exposure builds clinical confidence, keeps you aligned with the latest advancements, and supports more informed decision-making.

  • Business Perspective: It can increase patient retention and open new revenue streams through shared care. Importantly, it does this without compromising your existing services – in fact, it strengthens them by giving patients more reasons to return to your practice.

When Should Optometrists Refer for Refractive Surgery?

When to consider cataract surgery

Refractive surgery is no longer a last resort – for many patients, it’s a proactive step toward visual freedom and improved quality of life. As their trusted primary eye care providers, optometrists play a key role in identifying when a referral may be appropriate.

Patients who may benefit from a referral include those with stable prescriptions who are motivated to reduce their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. This may include individuals who:

  • Have a cataract and are interested in Multifocal lens options
  • Experience mild to moderate dry eye related to contact lens wear and wish to stop their reliance
  • Show early signs of long-term contact lens intolerance or ocular surface compromise
  • Are presbyopic and would prefer to reduce dependence on multiple visual aids
  • Are seeking greater lifestyle convenience, particularly those with active routines
  • Have demanding professions or public-facing roles where visual freedom is beneficial
  • Have progressive Keratoconus and are looking to halt disease progression
  • Have stable Keratoconus and wish to explore options for visual rehabilitation

Optometrists should also consider referral when patients express frustration with visual aids, or when clinical discussions naturally lead to questions about long-term alternatives. A comprehensive refractive surgeon-led consultation enables a full assessment, patient education, and tailored recommendations, ensuring the best possible outcomes while keeping the optometrist at the centre of the patient journey.

Doctify Outstanding Patient Experience Award 2026

Doctify Patient Experience Award 2026Despite being a relatively new clinic, we are proud to have received the Doctify Outstanding Patient Experience Award 2026. Achieving this recognition so early reflects a strong and consistent commitment to putting patients first – delivering not only excellent clinical outcomes, but also a high standard of care, communication, and support throughout every stage of the journey.

This award highlights our team’s dedication to creating a truly patient-centred experience, combining clinical expertise with clear communication, empathy, and personalised care. It reinforces our belief that success is defined not just by clinical results, but by how patients feel throughout their entire experience with us.
