What is refractive lens exchange?
Refractive lens exchange (RLE), also called lens replacement, replaces your eye’s natural lens with a permanent artificial intraocular lens (IOL) — correcting your vision and removing the risk of ever developing a cataract in that eye.
It is the same well-established procedure as cataract surgery, performed electively before a cataract forms. Each eye takes around 15–20 minutes under local anaesthetic drops, as a walk-in, walk-out day case. With a premium multifocal or trifocal lens, most patients become largely free of glasses for near, intermediate and distance vision.
